Sanjay Gandhi National Park : A Bird Lover’s Paradise

The birdwatchers will find Sanjay Gandhi National Park just like a heaven. As per the wildlife experts, there are over 251 species of birds inhabiting the national park, comprising of both water birds and land birds. One can also see migratory birds frequenting the park. The main bird species of Borivili National Park are Woodpeckers, Magpies, Jungle Owlets, Hornbills, Malabar Pied Hornbill, Great Hornbill, Indian Grey Hornbill, Racket-Tailed Drongos, Bronzed Drongo, Ashy Drongo, Minivets, Robins, Peacock, Golden Orioles, Sunbirds, Grey Junglefowl, Red Spur fowl, Indian Peafowl, Painted Francolin, Emerald Dove, Malabar Trogon, Black-hooded Oriole (rtiwp), White-rumped Shama, Blue-capped Rock Thrush etc. On the water banks, quite a handful of bird species also can be seen, namely, Asian Openbill, Spotbill Duck, Lesser Whistling-duck, Oriental Dwarf Kingfisher, Pheasant-tailed Jacana. At times, one may also come across Paradise Flycatcher, Kingfisher, Swifts, Gulls, Egrets and Herons here.
The chirping and playfulness of these woodland and aquatic birds stand in contrast with the flocks of bird raptors. Crested Serpent Eagle, Shikra, Osprey, Peregrine Falcon, Lesser Spotted Eagle, Eurasian Marsh Harrier, White-bellied Sea Eagle, Eurasian Eagle Owl, Brown Hawk Owl etc. are some of them.
